A packed audience at the Floral Pavilion Theatre, New Brighton on Tuesday 17th October, was treated to a wonderful evening of presentations highlighting Wirral’s best sporting achievers and unsung heroes who dedicate their time and service to their clubs, leagues and associations. The prestigious Wirral Sports Awards evening, celebrating its 59th year, was opened by the Mayor, Councillor Jerry Williams, himself a passionate marathon and half marathon runner. The evening was compered by BBC Radio Merseyside’s Ian Kennedy.
Wirral golfer Mathew Jordan received the Wirral Sports Person Award 2023 following his fantastic top 10 finish amongst golf’s elite at the Open championship at Royal Liverpool. Former West Kirby Wasps and now Chelsea and England Lioness, Niamh Charles, picked up the Outstanding Achievement Award. Young Sports Person of the Year was awarded to Wirral snooker player Zoe Killington in recognition of her meteoric rise in the women’s snooker rankings and tournament wins.
