Bursary Awards

Providing help to Wirral sports people to achieve their sporting goals

congratulations to our 2023 bursary award winners

The Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Jerry Williams, was delighted to present bursary awards to several local junior people on July 5th 2023 at Birkenhead Town Hall.
Monies raised by the Wirral Sports Forum funded the bursaries. The Wirral Sports Forum exists to promote Wirral’s sporting success and, where possible, support Wirral’s developing sporting talent. Part of this contribution is to raise funds for the unique bursary award scheme.
Presentations were made to the following:
• Grace Dunne – GB Gymnastic Tumbler.
• Ella and Poppy Boden – Junior GB Laser Run and Triathele events.
• Annabelle and Jasmine Rogan – Junior GB Laser Run and Triathele events.
• Niamh Maguire – Indoor Roller Derby.
• Patience Wood – Under 18 GB Archery.
• Charlotte Mackie – Junior GB Laser Run.
The awards will help fund their development and competitive opportunities at a county, national, European and world levels.
Commenting on the awards Wirral Sports Forum Chair Ronan Kearney said “We wish all of them success in their individual and team events and look forward to hearing from them on how they all got on. The bursary awards are an exclusive benefit for our forum members. I would encourage all local sports clubs, leagues or associations to join the Wirral Sports Forum. Our fund raising primarily comes from the annual Wirral Sports Awards. This year’s event takes place on 17th October 2023 and we are now receiving nominations under the different categories. All nominations have to be in by 31st July.”

About bursaries

The Wirral Sports Forum provides a voice for local sports clubs, associations and leagues on Wirral. Supported by Wirral Council, the Forum acts as a unique networking hub to assess the sporting needs of the area and provide help and advice on a range of subjects including Clubmark accreditation and sports promotion. The Forum exists to help promote and, where possible, support Wirral’s developing sporting talent. Part of this contribution is to raise funds for a unique bursary scheme.

The Forum annually announces to its members the opportunity of applying for a sports bursary that will provide financial help to young sports people to achieve their sporting goals.

The Wirral Sports Forum Foundation is our charitable wing. Administered by the Charities Trust all monies raised go towards helping our Wirral sports stars of the future. Monies raised come from profits made at events, such as the Wirral Sports Awards and donations made to the Forum.

Chair of the Forum Ronan Kearney commented “The annual Wirral Sports Awards significantly contributes to our bursary scheme. I would encourage all Wirral’s Sports Clubs and Association representatives to join the Forum. Joining the Wirral Sports Forum allows Clubs the opportunity to apply for our sports bursaries.”

“Joining the Wirral Sports Forum allows Clubs the opportunity to apply for our sports bursaries.”
